Lines
What Has Stopped You From
Winning So Far?
Well, most people doing the lottery subconsciously imagine they
are pitting their wits, luck and intuition against the
organizers or the other players. But, of course, they are wrong.
As regards the lottery, you are not playing against the
organisers at all! They take their share before the first
ball drops (which is why the lottery prize-fund is never the
same size as the staked outlay - the organisers win first!)
Moreover, until the last ball drops no one knows how many
winners or losers there are - so it's not like a game where you
are playing against some other team or individual. Let's
assume for a minute you win the jackpot - the size of your win
is dictated by how many people play (contribute to the prize
fund in other words) and how many other winners there are.
They did not alter your chance of winning but merely how much
you won!
So Who Are You Playing Against Then?
Well, put like this its obvious that what you are playing
against is chance - pure and simple. Your odds of winning
that jackpot are just under fourteen million to one, and against
any sort of prize still over fifty to one! So the only
realistic option you have is to reduce those odds to a more
favourable level.
Now, there are basically three ways of achieving this. The
first is the simplest - spend more money buying more tickets.
This approach gets you more shots at the target as it were -
every line you buy knocks down the odds by one. Most
people adopt this approach.
Unfortunately as the number of entries increases so does the
cost. If you covered every single combination of numbers
from one to forty-nine, for instance, it would cost you
about$14,000,000 - which is more than you could ever win for two
reasons.
- The organisers take their cut first,
give some to charity, some to the government and then simply
divide the rest amongst the winners.
- You would still have to share this
portion with other winners!
Yes I know that sometimes the jackpot is
larger than the cost of buying every single possible combination
which ought to ensure a guaranteed jackpot win ... but this is
because the jackpot has either been artificially hiked up for
publicity purposes or because its a very large rollover and so
again "artificially" high. In this latter case you ought
to have included the cost of your losing entries for the first
draw to balance the equation.
Be Careful!
The starkest warning against following this route too
enthusiastically, though, is illustrated by the fact that even
if you bought a million different lucky dip tickets your odds of
winning the jackpot would still be thirteen million to one!
And after a few games with no jackpot win this approach could
start to lose its flavour, even assuming you were spending, and
could afford to carry on spending, astronomical sums like that!
Get Organised
The second and by far the most cost-efficient is, again, to make
a number of entries but this time arrange them within a
specially ordered sequence that forms a sort of mathematical
"net". With this method every line has the same chance of
winning as any other but because the entries are tied in with
one another they partially reinforce each other's chances as it
were. The result is that apart from increasing your
chances of a jackpot (because you have increased the number of
random shots as with the first method) you will also start
winning a larger number of lesser amounts. You might win
for instance one five figure prize, two fours and six three
number prizes!
An Example
Players from all over the world have been using lottery systems
for many years. Lottery systems are the most entertaining and
well-organized way to play lotteries. The best way to
explain a 'system' is by giving you an example.
Suppose you want to play with 10 numbers instead of just 6.
Naturally, you are willing to play more than one ticket.
However, you want a certain guarantee. Let's say that you
want a 4-win whenever 4 of the numbers drawn are in your set of
10 numbers. This means you want a set of combinations
(tickets) that covers every possible quadruple out of your 10
numbers. Such a set of combinations is what we call a
lottery system. In this example, the lottery system must
have the property that any quadruple out of your set of 10
numbers is contained in at least one of your combinations, so
that you get a guaranteed 4-win whenever 4 of your 10 numbers
are drawn.
In a sense, a lottery system expands the guarantee that you have
on playing just 6 numbers (one ticket). If you correctly
guess 4 numbers, you are guaranteed a 4-win. The lottery
system in our example guarantees a 4-win on 4 numbers guessed
correctly, playing with 10 numbers.
Resources
There is a whole bunch of books that will help you understand
how these systems work. There's also lots of software available
too. Personally, I prefer to keep things simple so that I
don't have to spend too much time 'working things out'.
I mostly play in syndicates (which we'll talk about soon) however I have also used a simple piece of software
devised by Donald Hunting called
Beat The Lotto.
You can perform some simple tests, BEFORE you use it to play the
lottery, that will demonstrate its awesome lottery prediction
power. You may feel the need to find a playing partner or
form a small syndicate to take full advantage of this very easy
to use system.
Ken Silver's e-book
Honest Lotto System is also very good.
Apparently Ken has won over $2 Million Dollars and has had an
astonishing 80.3% success rate with his Honest Lotto System.
His web site shows many testimonials of satisfied customers and
winners.
There are also a few good books on Lottery Systems

My Preference
I have to admit that I do enjoy a 'flutter' and playing
on my own sometimes (after all there's an old saying, 'a little
of what you fancy does you good') but when I do play on my own, I play multiple
lines. For the most part though, I stick with playing in
syndicates.
There are two main reasons for this. First, I've had more
wins with syndicates and second, I found ways to play for free
(and that really appealed to me). I'll tell you all about
that on the
Playing
In A Syndicate page.
